On June 23, 2017 the meeting of the Chairman of the Board Akhylbek Kurishbayev with the delegation from Canada headed by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food of Canada Mr. Fred Gorrell was held. The delegation consisted of the Deputy Director of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of Canada Mr. John Franzois Lefir, Senior Trade Commissioner Mr. Adam Barbollet, and the Trade Commissioner in Agriculture of the Canadian Embassy Gaukhar Kydyrkhanova.
KATU was represented by the director of the International Cooperation and Multilingual Education Development Center Saltanat Meiramova and KATU press service.
Chairman of the Board emphasized that Canada is a unique country for cooperation, precisely because of soil and climate conditions, in particular in the Saskatchewan province, which is identical to the conditions of the main agricultural zone of the northern region of Kazakhstan. Therefore, technologies for viniculture of cereals, in particular soil protection systems of agriculture, zero minimal technologies have been introduced and adapted to our conditions from Canada.
Representatives of Canada expressed their gratitude to the Chairman of the Board for the present opportunity. Fred Gorrell pointed out that he will help in the process of the signing of the memorandum on cooperation in science and education between KATU and Lakeland College, Alberta and Saskatchewan universities.
It should be noted that KATU actively cooperates with the Embassy of Canada in the Republic of Kazakhstan. On February 22, 2013 Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to the Republic of Kazakhstan Mr. Stefan Millar visited KATU with the adviser of the Agriculture Industry Agency of Canada for CIS countries Jennifer Fellows, where the main areas of cooperation were discussed.
Moreover, on August 28, 2015 a delegation from the province of Alberta, Canada headed by the specialist in trade and public relations of the Government of Alberta Mr. Aaridzh Bashir and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to the Republic of Kazakhstan Mr. Shawn Steil visited KATU with the guest lecture.
At the end of the meeting, parties came to the agreement on the possibility of creating a joint farmer school for the dissemination of knowledge. The parties were confident that this visit will serve as an impetus to further development of scientific and educational cooperation of KATU with Canadian universities.
