During the period from 3 to 9 February 2018, ex vice-president of INRA (France), the world-famous scientist-agrarian, Mr. Guy Riba visited the JSC " S.Seifullin Kazakh Agrotechnical University" (further - KATU).
The main purpose of the visit was to develop a new vision for reforming the scientific and educational system of KATU.
During Dr. Guy Riba's stay, meetings were held with high-ranking representatives of Kazakhstani leadership, in particular Deputy Prime Minister-Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan Shukeyev U.E., Deputy Chairman of the Majilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Bozhko V.K., First Vice-Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan Evniev A.K.
Issues of effective agriculture, integrated scientific programs, development of material and technical basis, competition, digitization, technological transfer, financing of agrarian science were discussed during the visits.
Moreover, Dr. Guy Riba met with the deans, scientists and academic staff of KATU, where he shared his vision of reforming the scientific and educational system of KATU.
In general, based on the results of the visit, Dr. Guy Riba supported the university's strategy of transformation into a modern research university and appreciated the work done by the KATU team to implement recommendations developed in 2014 by him and a group of professors from the University of California Davis in the field of educational reform, expansion of scientific research and development of the material and technical base.
In accordance with the decision of the Academic Council of KATU, Dr. Guy Riba was awarded the title of Honorary Professor of S. Seifullin Kazakh Agrotechnical University. A ceremony for awarding him with a diploma and gown of an honorary professor was held in a solemn atmosphere.
Dr. Guy Riba is an internationally recognized scientist, specialist in plant entomology and genetics, author of about fifty scientific publications on microbiological insect control and a monograph on integrated plant protection, trained 10 PhD candidates. Dr. Guy Riba is a top-level manager at the international level, has considerable experience and has made an invaluable contribution to the reform and implementation of strategic agrarian science development programs in a number of countries, such as France, Japan, Canada, Chile, South Africa, Spain, etc.
