February 22, 2018 JSC "S. Seifullin Kazakh Agrotechnical University"(hereinafter KATU) was visited by the World Bank Group of Experts on Agriculture. The delegation consisted of the leading consultant on the reform of agriculture Dacian Cioloș and the senior specialist in agriculture Talimzhan Urazov.
The purpose of the visit was to discuss the reform of state support for agriculture and consultative support for the introduction of innovative financial instruments such as agricultural receipts, the promotion of digitalization in agriculture, including applied IT solutions for farmers, the development of agribusiness strategies and agro-logistics to promote export in the framework of joint economic research program (JERP).
The delegation was met by the Chairman of the Board of KATU A.K. Kurishbaev. First Deputy Chairman of the Board A.M. Abdyrov, Director of the IC and MEDC S.A. Meiramova and the representatives of the press center participated at the meeting from the side of KATU.
Chairman of the Board Akhylbek Kurishbayev thanked the representatives of the World Bank for the shown interest, briefly presented information on the activities of KATU, having determined the position of the university in the country's agrarian structure.
In turn, Mr. Dacian Ciolos was grateful for the warm welcome and the organization of the meeting and spoke on the international experience of carrying out reforms in the field of state support of agriculture in EU member states, including Romania, as well as opportunities to reform state support mechanisms that are available in Kazakhstan.
During the meeting, the sides exchanged questions and opinions on the state of agrarian science and the current state of the structure of state agricultural support, which is aimed at increasing production in the main spheres of agricultural sector, while paying more attention to the production of grain crops (due to the importance of their export).
In conclusion, Mr. Dacian Ciolos thanked again for the warm welcome and detailed discussion and stressed that the comments and suggestions of the Chairman of the Board A.K. Kurishbayev coincide with his own opinion on the issues discussed and will be taken into account when drafting recommendations for presentation to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
