Last weekend, the 1st International Youth Boxing Tournament was held in honor of Major General Abdykhapar Kaziev, a veteran of the Afghan War, holder of the Order of the Red Star of the USSR and the Order for Personal Courage. The competition took place at the KATRU sports complex.
In total, about 250 athletes from teams from Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Almaty, Astana, Kokshetau, Aktobe, Ust-Kamenogorsk, Karaganda, Pavlodar, Taldykorgan and Alakol district of Almaty region took part in the international tournament.
General Abdykhapar Raimzhanovich himself became the honorary guest of the tournament. Among the distinguished guests were also: Bolat Zhumadilov, the first Kazakh world boxing champion, two-time Olympic silver medalist; Erbol Maraluly, secretary of the AMANAT party for the Saryarka district of Astana; Colonel Vladimir Marchenko; Colonel Evgeny Masalimov, holder of the Order of the Red Star of the USSR and the Order of Aibyn; Colonel Sergei Fedoseev; KATRU Vice-Rector for Student Affairs Zhainagul Kusayunova and Financial Director Erkimbek Arpabaev.
Organizers of the tournament: Associate Professor of the Department of Physical Education of KATRU, Master of Sports of the USSR in boxing, Honored Boxing Trainer of the Republic of Kazakhstan, who trained the world champion in the professional ring Marat Mazimbaev and is a fan of boxing with all his heart, Zhumabek Seidualiev; Master of Sports of the USSR in boxing and champion of the Republic of Kazakhstan among adults in boxing Abay Samambekov; Master of Sports in MMA and President of the ARASHI MMA Federation Kamilzhan Tleuzhanov and senior teacher of the Department of Physical Education of KATRU Beibit Mustafin.
The organizers express special gratitude for the support in holding the tournament to the Chairman of the Board - Rector Kanat Tireuov, member of the Board - Vice-Rector for Student Affairs Zhainagul Kusayunova, member of the Board - Vice-Rector for Operations Saparkhan Omarov and Financial Director Erkimbek Arpabaev. In addition, special thanks go to the KATRU sports club.
The athletes were divided into a senior youth group and a junior group depending on the weight category: starting from 35 kg and ending with 70+ kg.
According to the results of the tournament, in terms of the total number of prizes, Kyrgyzstan took fourth place, Mongolia - third, Azerbaijan - second, and the championship remained with Kazakhstan.
